Sleeve Gastrectomy: Laparoscopic & Robotic Advanced Approach

What is this procedure?

Sleeve gastrectomy is one of the most popular bariatric surgeries worldwide. It is an irreversible procedure that reduces the size of the stomach by surgically removing approximately two-thirds of it, leaving behind a shape similar to a banana. This procedure also eliminates most of the cells that produce ghrelin, the hormone responsible for hunger, which significantly reduces appetite and helps accelerate weight loss.

Main Features of Surgery

Sleeve gastrectomy is performed laparoscopically and robotically, offering quicker recovery and smaller scars compared to open surgery. These methods preserve stomach function and the gastrointestinal tract’s normal anatomy, reducing the risk of vitamin deficiencies and dumping syndrome.

Who is it recommended for?

Sleeve gastrectomy is ideal for younger patients with morbid obesity and related conditions like diabetes, high blood pressure, sleep apnea, and PCOS. It’s also a preferred first-stage procedure for those with a BMI over 60-70. However, it is not recommended for patients with severe gastroesophageal reflux disease or large hiatus hernias.

Dietary Requirements

Patients must follow a 7-day liquid diet before surgery, prescribed by our nutritionists.
