What are Stomach Cancers ?

Stomach cancer, also known as gastric cancer, develops when abnormal cells begin to grow uncontrollably in the stomach lining. The condition can progress quietly in its early stages, which is why early diagnosis and timely, specialized treatment—often involving surgical resection (Gastrectomy) by an expert—play a crucial role in improving long-term outcomes and overall quality of life.

Treatment Options

Treatment depends on the size, location, and stage of the tumor. Our team creates a personalized plan which may include:

Unlike advanced stages, early gastric cancer symptoms can be vague, often mimicking common digestive issues. Key warning signs include persistent, unexplained indigestion or heartburn, chronic discomfort or pain in the abdomen, persistent loss of appetite, and unexplained weight loss.

A Gastrectomy is the surgical procedure used to remove part (partial) or all (total) of the stomach that contains the tumor. While it is the cornerstone of curative treatment, therapy for stomach cancer is usually multimodal, involving a combination of surgery, chemotherapy, and radiation therapy tailored to the cancer stage.

The prognosis for stomach cancer is highly dependent on the stage at diagnosis. Patients diagnosed with early-stage gastric cancer (where the cancer is confined to the inner layers of the stomach) who undergo successful surgery often have a very favorable survival rate.

Key measures for gastric cancer prevention include treating H. pylori infection, maintaining a healthy weight, quitting smoking, reducing intake of heavily salted and smoked foods, and consuming a diet rich in fruits and vegetables.
